Here are twelve early learning skills and their definitions that are important for
Kindergarten readiness. 

Vocabulary- Knowing the names of things.
Expressive Language- The ability to communicate thoughts and feelings.
Phonological Awareness- The ability to recognize words are made up of different sound parts.
Sequencing and Patterns- The ability to recognize and arrange things in a specific order.
Print Awareness- Knowledge and recognition of letters and symbols.
Geometry and Spatial Sense-
                        Geometry- The recognition of shapes.
                        Spatial Sense- The ability to interact within an environment.
Reasoning and Problem Solving- The ability to understand a problem and use knowledge or
experience to find a solution.
Print Motivation- A child's interest and enjoyment of books and reading.
Letter Knowledge- Knowing that letters are different from each other, and that they have different
names and sounds.
Gross Motor Skills- Activities that use the large muscles of the body, like the arms, legs and
core.
Narrative Skills- The ability to describe things and events and tell stories.
Receptive Language- The ability to understand what is being said.
